Amara Hinde is a graduate student in Counselling Psychology, with a specialization in school and youth, at Adler University. She is a counselling intern at Simmons Counselling and Consulting and at Family Services of the North Shore in the Child and Youth Counselling Program. Amara graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She has over ten years of experience working with children of various ages in different capacities.
Amara previously volunteered with the Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of BC (Crisis Centre) as a distress line worker. This enabled her to see first-hand the powerful healing that comes from an ability to communicate understanding of another’s experience. She also volunteered as a community youth educator for the Crisis Centre, facilitating suicide awareness and response workshops to high school youth. Most recently, she completed an internship at Jessie’s Legacy Eating Disorders Prevention and Awareness which entailed delivering eating disorder prevention presentations to elementary and high school youth. Amara loves to write poetry and spend as much time in nature as possible.
